Peter Barter
When we were teenagers at Balwyn High School, seventy seemed old! Well, now it isn't!!
My life can be divided into three phases with each one better than the last, but I view all past years with fondness and nostalgia.
My first 25 years were devoted to education, being a 'kld' and growing up. Getting educated seemed to go on forever attending Melbourne and New Castle Universities. Looking for a job was easy in those days and I joined Rio Tinto, the mining company.
The next 35 years was family and work. Got married, got divorced, got remarried, had a brood and reared six kids. Stayed with Rio in accounting and finance for 28 years, worked, traveled and lived around Australia and all over the world. Spent 6 years in California and got the American Dream. After Rio, we bought a bakery in downtown North Balwyn (a disaster) while living in beautiful, leafy Donvale.
I retired and now have perfect freedom! We enjoy seeing friends and family scattered around the world, playing grandparent, traveling, international house swapping, going to Ocean Grove beach house, playing bridge, gardening, cooking, wine tasting, theatre, and of course, following the Mighty Cats.
A fulfilled life.
