16 August 2014 Get-together at The Harp Hotel Kew
Another great night together for the 1957 to 1962 crew. Only 22 of us this time but at least another 40 wanted to be with us but were off in warmer climes in northern Australia or the northern hemisphere. Next time we shall meet in the spring perhaps.
The Harp was chosen because it was a place many of us went to in our teenage years, especially those who played football for Kew or were associated with boys who did.
Every time we gather, we find a few 'new' ones we haven't found before and so it was for this night. Plus we had a special guest, a student who started in 1954, the first year that Balwyn High was open. Paul Barnard was an inaugural student, starting in 1954 and going through to 1958. Great to have Paul along and to share some stories. You can read Paul's own story in the Student Stories page. Some of the other 'new' people attending have promised to write their 'story' for the website. Everyone has an interesting story to tell and/or memories of their school days and we all like to hear them.
Much mirth was created with a spontaneous rendition of the old school song. Suggested by Brian Stagoll and ably lead by Michael Alston who seems to have remembered all the words! Can't say the same for the rest of us but we did manage to get out "Constanter ac Fideliter, our watchword e'er shall be'!
As always, there was great interest in the old school photos. If anyone has any others to share, we would love to see them, including any from the 'feeder' schools such as Deepdene Primary, Balwyn State School, North Balwyn State School etc. Great fun to match the child to the adult. And it would be enormously helpful if anyone can identify any of the students in the photographs that we haven't yet managed to put a name to. Send your information to one of the "organising mob".
And don't forget there is a Blog page on this website if you want to make a direct comment. Or else send photos or comments to Kath McKay (Semmel) to post.
