Gerd Kratzer
After I matriculated at Balwyn High School in 1963, I leased a new service station starting in December of that same year.
I operated this business until 1971, but in the meantime, from 1969 onwards, planned and built “Chaucer’s Canterbury Reception & Convention Centre” on Canterbury Rd. in Canterbury.
I ran this establishment until 1999, when I sold the freehold and business. Concurrently,
I also held the post of presidency of the “Restaurant & Caterers Association of Victoria” for some 10 years.
During this time I also organized the 20th and 25th BHS 1962 Class Reunion at my homes, first in Mitcham, then in Balwyn.
After retiring from catering and due to my interest in stamp collecting, I was appointed the Administrative Officer of the “Australasian Philatelic Traders Association” (APTA), a post from which I retired just 3 weeks ago (30th June).
I separated from my first wife in 1995 and remarried in 2001 and now live in Brighton.
As a keen traveller, I managed to journey to every corner of the globe and just last year, spent a wonderful week in Alaska.
Now that I am completely relieved of any official duties, I hope to travel some more, health permitting.
